KMTC Advances Maritime Digitalization with Avikus’ AI-based Autonomous Navigation System

May 30, 2025 – Seoul, South Korea — Avikus, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai and a pioneer in autonomous navigation technology, announced that it has signed a contract with Korea Marine Transport Co., Ltd. (KMTC) to install its AI-powered navigation solution, HiNAS Control, on 10 KMTC container vessels. The agreement was finalized on May 19, with an official signing ceremony held on May 30 at KMTC’s headquarters in Seoul, attended by KMTC CEO Mr. Yonghwa Shin and Avikus CEO Mr. Dohyeong Lim.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in KMTC’s digital transformation strategy. By implementing AI-based navigation, KMTC aims to strengthen both operational safety and fuel efficiency across its intra-Asia fleet.

HiNAS Control is an AI-driven navigation assistance system that integrates perception, decision-making, and vessel control capabilities. The solution is already commercially deployed and has demonstrated measurable reductions in fuel consumption and improvements in collision risk mitigation. It stands as the first AI-based autonomous navigation system to be implemented at scale in real-world operations by a Korean solution provider.
